To be real, I could already see how to bypass this (assuming I want to use AI to destroy a site and bypass these captcha protections)

lets be real, ID verification is the solution !

It's a solution alright. A "solution" which ensures you will never be able to say anything that the state you found yourself in (by sheer luck) doesn't like.

In many countries, you literally wouldn't be able to say the stuff you do about "white infidels" because of hate speech laws. Though they are almost never considered when whites are the target, but in theory.

The winds of culture change every so often. Anything can become or cease to become acceptable in a flash. People (doctors, etc) lost their careers over mild Covid opinions. Now some of those opinions are leaking to the mainstream. Covid crusade is pretty much gone. Jews used to be unable to be criticized, now that's mostly gone and social media is full of criticizing Israel. But now you can't say anything pro-Russia.

Have some future based thinking and realize you might be at some point screwed over for saying things that today are completely accepted. And you won't be able to predict what those will be. That is why all anti-internet-anonymity initiatives must be nipped in the bud. If the giant tree of slavery is allowed to grow, cutting it down will be impossible at some point.

2026: Websites load up in a few seconds, but now you spend half a minute at best solving the captchas (at worse, you have to refresh, do multiple tests, etc which takes a few minutes).

That’s the best case scenario. Sometimes Google will outright block you because it "detected malicious activity" coming from your address. Or worse, it will start offering you unsolvable challenges without you knowing so you’re just clicking there on fire hydrants like an idiot for minutes before finally realizing you’ve been taken for a ride.

Funny thing is, when I switch to a proxy somewhere in Netherlands, it almost always lets me pass without a verification or at least gives me a really easy challenge. Not only is reCuckcha an asshole, it’s also racist.

That sounds more like 1999 dial-up than 2009. Web pages in 2009 loaded way faster than today, even captchas and Cuckflare screens and whatnot aside.

And, I forgot to mention, GDPR pop-ups.

The time it takes to battle ShitFlare challenges and GDPR pop-ups makes the Internet nowadays slower than it was in the early 2010s.

We also used to have only a dozen of HTML elements with which you could structure everything. CSS that was simple yet powerful enough to place most of the said elements where you wanted to. JavaScript with just the right number of commands to perform form validation and other such subtle pleasantries that only supplemented existing behavior. Basic tools, but somehow websites were still clear and loaded nearly instantaneously even on a 54K modem.

Now? We have like, what? Over 10K of HTML elements whose purpose is so arbitrary that not even the experts can unanimously agree on when and how they should be used.

And all for what? Has browsing become better? I contest that it has not. As a matter of fact, it has become worse as many here have noticed. Even if there is a theoretical improvement, the complexity is just not worth it. Not to mention that back in the day every nerd could make a website. Now if you want to make something “serious” you need a whole team of expert developers and tons of tools, otherwise they’ll just think you’re a joke.

I’ve never thought about it that way. It’s kind of like how Big Pharma isn’t interested in curing you, but only in ameliorating your symptoms so they can forever sell you pharmaceuticals.
