I hate web "apps".

Web "apps" need ten times the resources and load much slower to accomplish the same.

Web app = more like ass.

I despise web apps with their "oh-so-flashy" skeleton screens that exist just so soydevs can have a genital measurement competition.

If you want to really confirm that, try to open whatsapp on your PC and start hearing the fans blowing like a turbine.

I have no idea what whatsapp does when it loads but I know it causes my PC fans to blow like i am running a fluid simulation.

Don't worry bro, Web Assembly will come to save the day and usher in a new era of remote code execution in your browser in performant languages like Rust instead of slow and outdated JavaScript. :rubbing:
And then we'll have operating systems like ChromeOS connected to the Internet through 666G at all times (ID verification required) where you do everything on your browser through WASM web "apps".

One exception

Post by TechLord »

The only exception are websites which have interactive elements that simply do not work without JavaScript, such as OpenStreetMap, but even they should not waste any memory on useless bloat like skeleton screens.

Also, they should work in minimalist and old web browsers, not just on the Google-Mozilla "evergreen" browser duopoly.

I am glad this site uses phpBB. Discourse is soydev garbage that requires JavaScript and a recent browser (source).

With Discourse, you need a 400MB piece of software to post text on a message board.

How is that excuse even supposed to make any sense? What the fuck does being "designed for the next 10 years of the Internet" mean and how does that require "high minimum browser requirements" (ie. a lot of bloat)?

Agreed.

There is no excuse to not allow at least posting plain text messages without JS.
