Seriously. I just visited like 12 video game review sites. All were Cloudflared, I could read nothing. I think it's a record for CFed sites in a row for me. Similar problem exists with tech sites.

To do any kind of reading these days, I need morty or archives and that's additional effort and often doesn't work anyway. There needs to be a better solution because almost the entire internet is now gated by CF. Don't believe this? 16% of all sites are behind CF, and the percentage shoots up for any actually used ones (42.3% for top 100000!). And I suspect the percentage will be even higher in terms of certain topics like tech or gaming.

What could be done? Maybe save a local archive of every CFed page you encounter, then upload. Massive undertaking though. An extension to do that automagically could be made, perhaps.

Yeah I do. If you managed that, it would be great.
My vision was that the local archives from various users could be combined and uploaded somewhere (like in a torrent, maybe). Then, the browser would automatically redirect CF sites to the local downloaded archives, if it found a matching one. Might be hard to code, but worth it IMO.

In theory the best solution would be to DDoS or otherwise attack cloudflare's infrastructure until people stop using it. The feasibility of this is a whole other question. Or out of the question altogether, for, i assume, everybody here. Usually i just avoid CF'd sites, but this is probably one of their goals and what they want, control of information and censorship. Also doesnt prevent similar things from appearing, as has already occurred, even in the open source community.

That's stupid, the only reason soydevs willingly mitm their websites is because their services are genuinely the best (out of major commercial services)/at deflecting ddos attacks. Unless you're going to create the biggest botnet to ever exist (obviously infeasible) then the only thing to do is to boycott them by blocking their websites. The only hope is that they fuck up on their own and we've seen a couple of cf fuckups recently (are they vibe coding their software?). I guess it's not 100% hopeless but there's nothing a couple guys on a forum can do

hacked together the internet archive redirect in a few minutes. its late now so ill start actually trying to do the challenging part with the collaborative torrent archive thing tomorrow. if you want to test rename to xpi since phpbb doesnt recognise the filetype but theres pretty much no functionality except the redirect for now

Seems like more and more websites are becoming Cloudflared. At this point I don't care anymore unless a site forces Cloudflare browser checks every time. Rateyourmusic is one of the worst offenders because they require a CF browser check every time and they still completely block you anyways for using Tor/VPN, and even if you connected to a VPN or Tor exit node that wasn't blocked, you'll be blocked after a few requests anyways.

As far as mitigations, I don't know. They even made a way to protect against AI scrapers. What a waste of resources.

What do you mean by I2P? Browsing clearweb sites through I2P using outproxies? As far as I know you're not "supposed" to do that.

Aside from the technical problems that equilibria talked about (and that's what mainly matters), I also think it's lame and gay that they "enshittified" (I think this word is kind of cringe) their mascot pictures with the excuse that the original pictures were AI-jewnerated... I'm not a fan of jewnerated slop, but I prefer it to un-cute BlueSky tranny western cartoon shit.

What's the issue with anubis?

It prevents search engine indexing with crawlers, though there is a way to use it without javascript.

It does, but it kept getting taken down everywhere or retired so it's hard to link to, and I haven't read it in years so I don't know if it's still updated or not. But all of this could be added onto Mitigating malicious websites.

method to check if sites were CF'd before, but an easier way would be typing

and checking the server header. Then again, not every site behind Cloudflare forces a browser check every time you access the site.
