OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Re: OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Is this any different than the many math problems that were rekt by AI recently? Mathematicians will be out of job soon I guess. Though, there are more pressing issues with AI I'd say.
Re: OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Yes, it is different because it's one of the most famous unsolved problems that human mathematicians were unable to solve for 100 years despite the million dollar prize for solving it. Other Millennium Prize problems are things like P vs NP and the Riemann hypothesis. Basically, it's the most important mathematical result in a long while and if AI is truly at this level then it's not just mathematicians that are going to lose their jobs.digdeeper wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 7:04 am Is this any different than the many math problems that were rekt by AI recently? It was obvious since many years though. I had an article from like 2019 predicting it. I might not have known all the details but it was obvious most of the mental / data analysis stuff will be gone. Like there were already medical analysis AIs like a decade ago or so.qualia wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 7:15 amYes, it is different because it's one of the most famous unsolved problems that human mathematicians were unable to solve for 100 years despite the million dollar prize for solving it. This is why I told people, look, you HAVE TO fight for UBI or socialism or anything that's going to prevent the upcoming wave of corpses, there is no time, all your favorite jobs will be gone soon. No one listened and well? The corpse invasion is coming. And yet, people still BLINDLY TRUST that somehow new jobs will appear, somehow AI will not be good enough for this or that, blah blah. All while they have to step over corpse after corpse.
I don't believe everyone is so stupid as to not realize it, so somehow they must love it. They must love a world in which you must fight for survival no matter what, where someone simply MUST be worse than you and stepped on. That programmers, a model of job security just 5 years ago, are getting dropped en masse, didn't bother those people and they are still riding the jungle train. Now it's fucking trades despite a cable handling robot already being invented and despite it not being enough to replace all the lost art, programming, data analysis etc jobs. Then it's building data centers which when built won't have to be built anymore (for fuck's sake, some people REALLY don't get this!). It's all so insane. I guess everyone must die and new generations will believe in saner ideas. That is, if literally everyone doesn't die first from the quest to justify their life at all cost.

You believe this horseshit? 88 hours, they just can't help themselves.
Just a while back ClosedMasons made up this: https://collusion.wiki/ (Note the 18,000 posts). The primary goal of large language models is to gaslight you, both as technology and the news pieces surrounding it.

So it's all a fraud? What about the Lean proofs?Anon E. Moose wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 12:21 pm You believe this horseshit? 88 hours, they just can't help themselves.

What's the point of it then? Money laundering?

There's some info about OpenAI stealing drafts of researcher who worked for solving this problem.

Though it doesn't matter, because https://prospect.org/2026/09/09/anthrop ... activists/
People need to destroy such companies anyway.

Eh, the researchers have also used AI extensively by their own admission and they hadn't even tackled the same problem (incompressible Euler equations, not Navier-Stokes but the two are closely related). So a likely scenario is that the "autonomous agents with very little human input" thing is bullshit but AI is still arguably the main co-author of the proof.Anon E. Re: OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
There are rumours going around of two more Millennium Prize problems being solved by AI, Hodge conjecture and Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture by OpenAI and Anthropic respectively. OpenAI confirmed "substantial progress" on an unnamed problem in the New York Times.
It makes me wonder what will humans do post-AI? It's already gotten smarter than humans in some areas and the progress appears to be exponential. Surely pretty much all jobs will become useless. Like diggy says, mental ones are already being dropped but eliminating physical ones is just a matter of building a robot which will be (in an extended time frame) cheaper than paying a wage. Of course we will not be allowed a post-scarcity utopia, even if labor becomes meaningless. Will we still be required to work a job for survival that's effectively useless (since AI can do it better) just to keep us docile?

Re: OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
I just looked at a polish website about education, and it has an article about what school to choose to not be affected by AI. It admits 4.5 million Poles (more than 10%) are currently working in jobs that are "affected by automation". And more than 640k in ones "extremely affected". And yet, the title is literally "don't fear AI".qualia wrote: Fri Sep 11, 2026 8:38 pm There are rumours going around of two more Millennium Prize problems being solved by AI, Hodge conjecture and Birch-Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture by OpenAI and Anthropic respectively. It still talks about "maladjustment to the job market" or whatever. There is zero empathy for all the people who've been or will soon be replaced. It says that the antidote to being replaced is to choose human-facing occupations like massage therapists, makeup artists, barbers. Another set that is supposed to make you immune is "taking care" of crippled boomers and little kids. I wonder how do they imagine 4.5 million people being reskilled into such occupations, or even that so many of them would be needed. The basic principle of "having to earn a living" is not questioned even once. I've seen the same principle in a WEF report from a few years back, which I've covered. The script is always the same, I wonder if some commitee isn't feeding the writers the "proper" attitudes.
Since the people in power are willing to die on the hill that everyone absolutely must have a job (if you don't you are simply "maladjusted") - and they are disappearing by their own admission - I think the answer to your question is "we will die". As UBI and things like that are simply never covered in all those "job at all costs!" pieces.
Funnily the article at some point says AI can't do an injection, but there was a robot doing that already years ago. I fully expect medicine and all the other human-facing and "manual" jobs to also be partially automated. No one is safe.

Almost anything care related (ie hospitals, mental facilities, even therapists) are all chronically understaffed. It would take a lot for there to be "to many". Especially hospitals though do suffer from underpaying nurses and similar though.digdeeper wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2026 2:44 pm It says that the antidote to being replaced is to choose human-facing occupations like massage therapists, makeup artists, barbers. Moreover, we really need more of these kinds of places. You have all these homeless and/or mentally disturbed and/or drug/alcohol addicted people roaming the streets etc that need somewhere to go to be helped (or just cared for, not all of them have the capability to get better unfortunately).
So all in all could be a good thing. It really sets up a Star Trek kind of future, question though, like you said, is will most be allowed to live a decent life or will plebs simply be cast aside as no longer useful to allow for maximum efficiency. Climate change warriors, while anti-AI right now, could end up singing it's praises if it creates a mass die off that improves environmental concerns.
But if high consumerism is to continue to be dominate, and no has any money (no jobs etc), then who will they sell to? Maybe it doesn't matter, if you own the planet, you care not for any customers.
Re: OpenAI claims its internal nodel solved the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
They had apparently solved over 100 problems "across most areas of mathematics", no sign of other millennium prize problems being solved: https://openai.com/index/advisory-group ... cs-and-ai/ (cuckflared link)
