Cease and desist
On 24 August 2026 cease and desist letters have been sent by X Corp. demanding a permanent takedown of Nitter instances and the project's repository.
nitter.net is offline and development has stopped for the time being. I'm seeking legal advice and won't be commenting further on the specifics for now.
Thank you to everyone who used, hosted, packaged, donated and contributed to Nitter over the past seven years.

I wonder if other corporations will follow in their footsteps? Is this the end of, say, Invidious or Redlib? When I saw this I immediately thought of the diggy "avoiding the botnet - impossible?" article, specifically the part about failing tech band-aids. Although to be fair, Nitter had been proclaimed "dead" before so it might not be completely over.
Really pisses me off. Wouldn't that big of a deal if they didn't want a bunch of extra info to sign up. But come on, Mastodon has RSS feeds built in, but X doesn't? EVEN FUCKIN YOUTUBE HAS EM!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!11
