It's one of the messengers I approve of and use. I have to test it a bit more before I can fully endorse it, especially regarding the ux. But in theory it's better than signal. Quantum ready encryption and multi profile / incognito mode are great features.

The illegal content bot thing is suspect, in that they can send a bot to your group to delete whatever, but it may also be a positive to keep the tards out.
Private group chats and 1:1s seem to be bot vulnerable, and the bot only comes if illegal content is reported.
It is funded by Gill Bates and others, but so in Linux.
Other than that, SimpleX is p nice tbh. It has a better 'just works' factor than XMPP.
