What do you guys actually live *for*?
If there is such a thing.

I don't think the word "for" is suitable for living in general. The one can live for getting a degree or having fun with friends or anything else. But most of the things people live for are mostly temporary goals or favorite activities. There is no any meaning in life itself, it's just a state of the object. Other animals don't care about meaning of their life. There is no clear reason why a human needs one.

Maybe the at least four times bigger brain on average than anything else that exists. We came up with religions, spiritualities, ideologies, rituals, identities, legacies and all kinds of other stuff animals will never have. Of course also a lot of bad stuff like schooling, mass surveillance, and so on.Anon E. Moose wrote: Tue Aug 11, 2026 3:36 pm I don't think the word "for" is suitable for living in general. Heh. I guess that's just a little bit too sensitive. But thanks for the reply. How long this question worries you and why?
What would you do if the "temporary goals or favorite activities" stopped being fulfilling? And you craved something more but it's out of your reach?

I agree about impact of brain development. However, most of things you give as example are mostly related to "socialization". If all other people in the world disappear, would anyone care about meaning of life? Only geeks with a will to invent something, probably. For most of people meaning of life seem to be connected to the social-economic system (become rich, get married, etc.).Maybe the at least four times bigger brain on average than anything else that exists. I already don't have a meaning of life. All the temporary goals were either achieved either became unachievable (thanks to AI and govs) either I decided they are not worthy. As for favorite activities, every time any of them loses its fulfilling I just go for something else. Bored with writing? Switch to drawing. Bored drawing? Switch to music composition, etc. What would you do if the "temporary goals or favorite activities" stopped being fulfilling?
Almost everything I want seems out of my reach. And you craved something more but it's out of your reach?

Re: What do you guys actually live *for*?
I'm just happy to be here, I've reached a point in my life where I have no expectations anymore, I just take the day and people as they are. A lot of my pain and disappointment has been because of my expectations, so I'm really trying my best to get rid of imagination (to a certain extent) and expect less of others, and more of myself.
I have a few interests, so I focus on those in my spare time.

Re: What do you guys actually live *for*?
quite a loaded question, considering most days i don't even know what i live for, which might be a side effect of my helplessness after seeing my situation, i just live and don't try to rationalize. there's a lot pretentious ideals and values current society tries to enforce upon people which i seem to have just thrown out.
i'm kind of in the same position as Anon from earlier. i think it's pretty worthless to create a meaning and i'd rather just live on and indulge in whatever stuff i think benefits me. though, a temporary goal right now is filtering out activities which are less helpful, more so inhibiting. could call it 'freedom'.
being on the web is one of these, as it ends up just being more so an addiction than helpful, seeing as i get distracted by the generally poor social events which happen here, one which i especially ran into after my venture into self-hosting. i don't see goals, i moreso see things that are either annoying or not and how i deal with it. most things should just be simple
